NATIONALS 8 BARONS 5

An exhausted Barons Club capped of a grueling weekend with an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Nationals.  The effects of the heat and the intensity of the twenty-two innings played this weekend were readily evident in the Barons lack luster performance.  They played without enthusiasm and energy and were out played by a pumped up 5-20 team.  There were no outstanding performances to speak of in this forgettable game.  Nonetheless special notice should be given to Michael O'Bryant who continues to be the consummate Baron.  Mike played on Sunday despite his religious convictions as he knew the team was short handed and in need of his help.  He caught fifteen innings in 90-degree heat and then despite aching legs took the mound the next day.  Mike you are the definition of toughness, class, and you are the embodiment of what every Baron should strive to be.  We are lucky to have you.

BARONS 8 BOMBERS 5

The Barons rode a Justin Lee bases loaded triple to victory.  Isiah Bowens drove a two out triple to give the Barons the early 4-0 lead in top of the first.  Starting pitcher John Boire managed to hold the heavy hitting bomber attack at bay until the bottom of the sixth inning when they tied the score at five.  Justin Lee then delivered a two out bases loaded triple to plate all three Barons in the top of the seventh.  With the score at 8-5 in favor of the Barons reliever Mike Buck gave the ball to Aaron Knapp who pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.  For the weekend Knapp pitched six innings allowing one earned run while collecting a win and a save.  Offensive standouts for the game were Bowens 2-4 with a triple, Lee 2-2 with a triple, and Knapp who went 2-4.

BARONS VS BREWERS PART 2 INNIGNS 5 THROUGH 12

The Baron middle infield tandem of Knapp and Skilton have used their gloves to stifle many rallies over the years.  Today they used their arms.  Skilton pitched four quality innings before handing the ball to Knapp in the eighth with the score tied at 5.  Knapp pitched the final four innings of the twelve-inning contest to capture the marathon 8-5 victory for the Barons.   Both pitchers relied on solid defense and the timely hitting of their teammates. John Boire continued to swing the hot stick by stroking two hits.  Gagnon went 1 for 2 and was 4 for 5 overall in the two-part contest.

Williams Tosses a Gem

What do you get when the state's best pitching staff clashes with one of the state's most prolific hitting teams?  You get the most exciting Barons game of the 2006 season.  The Barons faced the league leading Rainiers Grey and their dominating pitching staff that had surrendered only 36 runs in their previous 16 games.  The Barons were forced to meet that daunting task short handed.  Five of the Barons regulars were missing from the lineup leaving coach Cassill with only nine players to face the Rainiers' Ace.  The Barons countered with freshman Josh Williams.  He and his teammates were ready for the challenge.  Williams toyed with the Rainiers' hitters for six scoreless hitless innings.  Entering the seventh the score remained tied at 0-0.  With two outs Jay Skilton and Aaron Knapp worked walks.  The Rainiers elected to load the bases by intentionally walking Zack Gagnon who already had two hits on the day.  This decision proved to be fatal.  Mike Buck stepped to the plate and delivered a line drive single to plate Skiliton.  Justin Lee then walked to score Knapp.  Catcher Carson Walbert then drove a three run double to deep right field.  The devastating blow was Walbert's third hit of the day.  Williams entered the bottom of the seventh with a five run cushion and a no hitter.  Unfortunately, he was fatigued and unable to complete the game.  He was relieved by Knapp who allowed the only Rainiers' hit of the day, a double that plated the runner he inherited  The 5-1 victory was Williams fourth of the season.  He threw six innings of no-hit baseball without striking out a single hitter.  The Barons played spectacular errorless defense behind him.  Anthony Tomyn and Justin Lee ran down numerous drives in the gap. Zack Gagnon made three diving plays.  Jay Skilton made a play for the ages and John Boire stuffed a Rainer base runner while jumping to snag an errant throw.  The Barons now have fifteen wins and four losses.  The loss was the Rainiers second of the year.

Big Daddy Kain Returns to Form

Riley Kain claimed his first win of the season by over powering the Bellevue Honda hitters.  Kain has been battling injury for several months now and his return to form is vital to the Barons post-season hopes.  He threw three complete innings without allowing a hit.  He struck the final five hitters that he faced and K'd six overall.  He threw without pain or effort since his 2005 World Series Semi final victory.  Zack Gagnon made his pitching debut and closed out the final two innings of the five inning Baron victory.  The final score was 9-2.  Zack also collect two hits as did John Boire.  The Barons face the league leading Rainiers Grey and their superb pitching staff tomorrow first pitch is at 11:15 AM Josh Williams will be the Barons' starting pitcher.

BARONS 5 TIMBERJACKS 2

Alec Elliott earned his fourth win of the season improving his record to 4-1.  Although he did not have his best stuff he managed to keep the opposing hitters off balance for five innings.  He was relieved in the sixth by Cody Hebner and Jay Skilton closed out the victory.  Stellar defense was played by centerfielder Justin Lee and shortstop Jay Skilton.  Mike O'Bryant contributed a bases clearing triple, which sealed the victory. The Barons are now 13-4 on the season.

Barons Lose a Heart Breaker to Burnstead

The Barons, six outs from victory, squandered a five run lead.  The loss wasted a dominating pitching performance by Cody Ryckman and multiple hit games by Bushnell, O'Bryant, Buck, and Ryckman.  The Barons starting pitching has been decimated by injury and the bullpen remains a question mark. New pitching coach Howard Bowens and Coach Jamses Cassill search for answers.  The Barons will try to regroup from the defeat today when they face the NW Timberjacks at UPS.  First pitch, which will hopefully be a strike, will be at 5:30 pm.

BARONS FALL TO THE RAINIERS MAROON 9-6

The Barons struggled mightily today losing 9-6 to the Rainiers Maroon squad.  The Barons left 16 base runners stranded, committed five errors, and struck out nine times.  The bright spots in the Barons lack luster performance were few.  Cody Ryckman went two for four and collected two RBI. While Aaron Knapp was two for three, scored twice, and drove in one run.  Will Hamilton (pictured) was stellar in relief.  He pitched 2 2/3 innings allowed no hits, struck out 4, and walked none.  The loss drops the Barons record to 12 wins and 3 losses. The loss was the first of the season for starting pitcher Josh Williams.

BARONS VS BREWERS GAME SUSPENDED

The Barons were leading 3-1 while entering the bottom of the fifth inning.  Despite the late 8:15 PM start time, inexplicably, the field lights failed to come on. As a result the game was suspended due to darkness.    Due to the fact that there was not five complete innings played which would constitute an official game the game must be completed at yet to be determined date.  Zack Gagnon was three for three with two doubles and Ace Alec Elliot was cruising toward his fourth victory of the season when the game was derailed
