Kyle Charvat Memorial Day Tournament Day 1

The Barons won their opening game of the Kyle Charvat Memorial Day Tournament 5-1.   Their opponent, the Redmond Blue Sox, was a late entry in the field of 24 teams.   They were at a disadvantage as many of the players normally on their roster were unable to play today.    Nonetheless, Baron (see photo)  pitchers Sumi, Mahler, McCarthy, Farrington, and Pearson combined to strike out 16 batters in the seven-inning contest.   Starting pitcher Mike Sumi struck out six in his three innings of work.   Sumi was also a perfect two for two at the plate.   He scored a run and drove one run in.   Brett Kolomyjec was two for three at the dish.   He doubled, scored twice, and collected an RBI.   K.C. Stiechen drove in the first run of the game with a towering double to straight away center.  Overall he was also two for three and had two RBIs.   The Barons will play the Federal Way Buzz at 9:00 AM and the Timber jacks Black at 3:00 PM tomorrow.   Both games will be played at Sumner HS.

BARONS DEFEAT THE CASCADE GENERALS

The Barons won again today behind a strong pitching performance from Brett Kolomyjec and the torrid hitting of David Neil.   Kolomyjec threw six innings allowing only three hits while striking out four.   He also doubled to straight away centerfield.   Neil was a perfect three for three with all three hits going for extra bases.   He also scored a run and stole third base.   Connor Pearson picked up the save with a perfect seventh inning in the 5-2 victory over the Cascade Generals.   The Barons next game will be this Friday in the Mid Sound Krushers Memorial Day Tournament.   The first game will begin at 6:00 PM at Sumner High School.   Their bracket includes the Timber Jack Black scout team and the 18U Federal Way Buzz.

2007 PSBL OPENING DAY

The Barons battled the elements and the Riverside Ravens in their opening game of the Puget Sound Baseball League season.    Starting pitcher Alec Elliott pitched well in the rain soaked 12-2 victory.   Alec threw 4 1/3 innings surrendering three hits while striking out five.   Connor Pearson who struck two opposing hitters in final 1 2/3 innings relieved Alec. Connor did not allow a hit.   Brett Kolomyjec hit the first home run of the 2007 season.   Lead off hitter David Neil was two for three at the plate.   He scored twice, stole a base, and drove in two runs.   Aaron Knapp, batting in the two hole, was two for four.   He doubled, scored once, stole a base, and collected three RBI.   Logan Bushnell batted third in the lineup.    Bushnell was two for four, scored once, doubled, drove in two runs, and stole a base.    The Barons travel to Graham-Kapowsin High School Tuesday to face the Cascade Generals.   The Generals feature All Area junior pitcher Jake Shadle, slugger Danny O'Dell, and infielder Johnny Poch.   The game will also reunite the Barons with three former teammates Jacob Schumacher, Drew Young, and Tylor Medvedich.

THE ROAD TO SAFECO

Baron shortstop Jay Skilton today was out of this world today.   Jay had an honor filled week. He was named to the All Area Team by the Tacoma News Tribune. Then for the third consecutive year he was named as the first team All League Shortstop of the Narrows League.   Today in the playoffs at Kent Memorial Park he had a day that will be talked about for quite awhile.   Skilton had an incredible day at the plate going five for ten with two doubles, three towering home runs, nine RBIs, five runs scored, and a stolen base.   The crowd was electrified by his awesome offensive display in perhaps the biggest games of his life.   Stadium beat number one seed Woodinville 19-12 in the first game of the loser out series.    Unfortunately, he and his teammates fell short of their quest for Safeco by losing to the SPSL Tahoma H.S. Bears 3-2.

Baron catcher David Neil and the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles fell to Richland H.S. 5-2.   Neil collected three hits in the losing effort.

Baron pitcher Colton Brown  shutout  East Side Catholic at Bannerwood Park.   Colton threw five innings while striking out four, walking none, and surrendered only two hits.   He also went two for three at the plate.   The victory was Brown's tenth of the season.   His next start will be at Safeco field.

At Wheeler field in Centralia, Baron outfielder Sean Montplaisir and the Bonney Lake Panthers also advanced to Safeco also by defeating Timberline 6-0, and Capital 6-1.   Sean collected three hits, scored twice, and drove in two.

Good luck Colton and Sean we will be watching.

The Barons organization is proud that they wear our uniform.    The Barons will open their Connie Mack Season against the Riverside Ravens this Sunday at Auburn Riverside High School.    This years team is arguably the most talented in the teams five year history. The first pitch of what should be an exciting season will be thrown at 11:00 AM.

BARONS HONORED AT EMERALD RIDGE HS

Logan Bushnell's 2007 numbers for Emerald Ridge High School were the type that hitters fantasize about.   Logan gave opposing pitchers nightmares.   He posted school records for batting average (.517), and homeruns (6).   He is now second on the ERHS all time list for hits (30), RBIs (25) and his (21) runs scored was the third highest total in the schools history.   Logan posted a ridiculous slugging percentage of .983.   Logan was named the ERHS 2007 MVP, Scholar Athlete, and received the Third Year Letter Award.   Unfortunately, Michael O'Bryant was injured all year.   However he was named the ERHS Most Inspirational Player, and received the Coaches Award.   Michael was also recognized as a Scholar Athlete.    You both represented us well and we are proud of your success. Get well soon Mike we miss you.

POWER SURGE PART 2

Baron first baseman John Boire, currently on loan to the Yelm Tornados, finished the regular season with a bang against Lakes High School.  Today John went yard twice.  The first of his big flies was a two run shot and his second one was hit in grand style with the bases juiced.  Jobo finished the day by going three for three with six RBIs and three runs scored.  Yesterday he was three for four with another run scored.  Johns two day total was a gaudy six for seven, six RBI'S,  four runs and scored.
