Mexico Here We Come

Well its been a year so its about time......  Monica and I are headed back to Playa del Carmen. We leave on  March 4th. I can tell its getting close because Monica has these check list all over the place.  She is very efficient when it comes to packing and planning. We have learned years ago not to over pack, we have done trips for a week with just back packs .....you just need a few shorts and t-shirts rolled up tight and your good to go.....well clean underwear too......packing light  makes getting through customs a lot easier........but with this new carry-on liquid ban....we now go ahead and check bags.....and can pack a little extra stuff...

We have a 6:30 am flight out of BWI.....so we need to leave the house around 3:30 to get the airport for check-in.....so we probally won't sleep much Monday night Iam always afraid we will oversleep.....Monica can sleep on the plane but I am always to excited.....the good thing is its only a 2hour and 45 min flight.....so by the time they feed us breakfast and I watch the movie its time to land.....

We are both really really excited and can't wait to get our toes in the sand......and see alot of our old friends again

Meet Peanut-Our New Family Member

So I am sitting at my desk Thursday afternoon trying to get through the day when I get an email that catches my attention.  Someone I work with knows someone with Beagle Puppies! Well talk about timing...I jumped up from my desk and went to her office and said loudly "Yes, I want one!"

You see Mack and Marissa have been bugging for a puppy since before Christmas.  I told them maybe for Easter or in the Spring.  Then the neighbors across the street got a puppy for Christmas. Darnit...now they really are non stop in their bugging for a puppy.  So when I got this email I felt like it was just meant to be.  Beagles are great dogs.  Boh, our dog we had for 10 years, was part Beagle.  I remember he was very good with Mack when he was little.

I called Michael and he immediately said let's do it! So I call the lady and set everything up to go pick out a puppy on Saturday morning.  She tells me the puppies are 8 weeks old, 4 females and 2 males.  They are pure breed.  I tell her I will take a female.  Now the tricky part is gonna be not telling the kids.  I want to surprise them.  So we agree to keep it a secret.

We woke up early this morning and drove to south of DC to pick out our new family member.  We walked in and there were puppies running everywhere. Oh they all were so cute...how was I gonna choose just one?  Well this little black and white one comes wobbling over and just climbs in my lap and crawls up towards my face.  Oh my I am in love! But at that same moment another family came in.  I thought I should be fair and not hog one of them.  So I sit her back down.  Fortunately they zoned in on an all black one.  Good thing cause our little girl jumped right from my lap to Michael's lap and buried her face.  Looks like we didn't get to pick her she picked us!!

So we had come prepared...we had a small box with a blanket in it to transport her back home.  Plus this was how we were gonna bring her in the house to the kids.  Of course the whole way home she slept in my lap...not in the box!

When we got home we carried the box into the house, handed it to Mack and Marissa came over and when they looked in and discovered it was a puppy Mack started to cry and Marissa said "Can we keep her?"  Priceless moment!  And it didn't take them any time to name her...Peanut!!

Now she is all set up in her new bed with her new blanket and toys.  She sleeps alot...seems like she plays for 5 minutes and sleeps for a few hours!  I keep reminding the kids she is just like a baby...she will sleep alot.   Welcome home Peanut!!

We puts some pics of her first day coming home in the gallery click .

Real Pizza

I love pizza and Iam somewhat of a pizza snob, and this is my pizza rant. Dominos, Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Little Ceasers sorry but this is not pizza. Real pizza comes from a pizzeria hand tossed by some guy named Sal who yells real loud, it has air bubbles, the crust is thin and crispy like cardboard, the mozzarella is real, not packaged......and real pizza is never made in a perfect circle.....and don't ever put ham and pineapple on it, you can't get it delivered, its made to order. I think my pizza taste comes from my childhood.

When I was a kid every Friday was Pizza Night......and the pizza came from Franks.....the guys working there were amazing it was like going to the circus....they would yell at each other in Italian and toss the dough in the air and pass the ingredients with the persion of well  choreographed jugglers. When the pizza came out of the oven the edges were crisp and brown.... and there was a thin glowing layer of grease on the cheese...the guy would slam the pizza cutter into the pie so hard and cut it in eight slices in record speed. Being picked to sit in the front seat and hold the pizza was an important job you had hold the box steady so the cheese would not shift and ignore the heat of the box on your legs. My brothers and I would always fight over the slice with the air bubble, as if it could give you special powers.

Franks is still there but I have not been in years......but I think it is time to stop by and see if it stands up to my childhood memories.

Michael
